About Me

In 2007 I gave away everything I owned, hopped on my mountain bike and headed West. At the time I was working at a machine shop and was just tired of standing in front of a machine all day long. At that time I'd been a machinist for 7 years and every day at work I would think to myself - there's gotta be something better for me than this.

When I hit the west coast in Newport Oregon I bought a surfboard since I've always wanted to learn how to surf, and surfed with the locals there in Newport a couple weeks while camped out on the cliff overlooking the ocean. I then built a trailer for my board using a threaded rod stuck through my helmet and two lawn mower wheels attached to either side. I rode down to California and running short on cash I decided to head back north to visit a buddy in Washington.

That's when life took a turn I never expected. I was at a BBQ with my buddy Josh in Tacoma at his neighbor Shelly's house. Josh needed a haircut and I'd always been able to cut a pretty nice fade, so I borrowed Shelly's shears, comb and clippers and started wack'n away at Josh's hair. Shelly, a stylist for 20 years or so commented "Ben, you cut hair better than I do, you oughta be a hairstylist!" Just then a little light bulb went off in my head, so I grabbed Shell's phone book and looked up beauty schools in the yellow pages. The first school I found just a few miles away was BJ's Beauty and Barber College so I called them and found there was a class starting in two weeks.
Two weeks later I found myself still living on a bicycle without a penny to my name attending beauty school in Tacoma. I found a job part time working at Starving Students moving company and an apartment across the alley from the school. I never imagined in a million years I'd end up a hairstylist, but I've finally found my dream job and if it wasn't for a 3000 mile bike ride it never would have happened. Life!, what an exciting adventure it's been.
I've worked at a couple salons since returning to Fort Collins and in 2010 I ended up reuniting and falling in love with my life long friend Sonya, getting married, buying a house and building a salon. Every year that goes by just seems to get better and I'm looking forward to meeting you and making 2023 the best year yet!
Thanks for visiting my website and taking the time to read about my adventures in life, I can't wait to hear about yours!
Take care, and God Bless!
